Welcome to the JiFL - Season 2009/2010 -

Home > Who We Are

+ Is your name Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo?

If so, the JIFL (Jakarta International Football League) won't be for you,
as it is purely an amateur, expat football league.

Professional football players are not allowed to play in the
league unless they are retired. The JIFL counts a few famous
ex international players such as Fandi Ahmad, Jules Denis Onana
(ex Cameroon national team, World Cup 1990) and Emmanuel
Maboang Kessack ( ex Cameroon national team, World Cup
1990 & World Cup 1994).

+ How it just started?

Formed approximately 25 years ago, to promote friendship through football, the league began with a small number of clubs which generally consisted of teams from the same nation. Amongst the successful clubs of the early era were German Plus, Knudde (Holland), The Vikings (Danemark), and India Medan.

+ What it even became...

Since gaining the name JIFL, the league has grown from strength to strength, with the majority of teams discarding their "Nation State" status and the league transforming into a smorgasbord of nationalities. Included here is the most successful team this decade, The Wanderers, who after humble beginnings have dominated the League and Cup tournament. Other famous teams are FC D's Place (became FC One Tree last season 2008-2009 and will be De Hooi Nomads this current season), FC Bugils, Do It Satu Lagi, JIS (Jakarta International School)... Teams like Bugils or De Hooi or Do It Satu Lagi are sponsored by bars downtown in Jakarta.

+ When and where we play...

JIFL games are played primarily in the evenings Tuesday to Thursday, and the primary venue is ISCI (International Sports Centre of Indonesia) in Ciputat. JIFL games are also played on Saturday afternoon at Sentul, Senayan, British International School, Jakarta International School... JIFL games are played under supervision from professional Indonesian referees from the Liga.

+ Why we are international...

Anyone interested in playing in the league should visit the league website constantly kept up with the results, tables, and contacts of each team. Indonesian people are welcome to play as well any other nationality. As of today, there are 34 nationalities in the league.

+ Something more to say...

Each end of season the JIFL helds a party where awards are given, such as: Best Player of the year / Best Improved team / Best goalkeeper / Top Scorer /....
