An Open Invitation
Well, the last Newsletter certainly
caused some controversy. A league
meeting was called and threats of
lawyers and investigators called into
play. And the final ruling was no
nom de plumes are to be used for this
Newsletter column anymore. The writer
must identify himself. That's what Ray
said. I can't help but think of such
notable famous pen names like
Mark Twain, John Le
Carre, and others who opted
for a pen name rather than use their
own. Is that illegal? I think that
authors who use pseudonym's are doing
so for a reason. They are either
marketing themselves in a novel way or
they are making it clear that the
message is more important than the
writer's identity.
So such a ruling
is odd in my opinion. I taught English
literature in another life and
appreciate the beauty and the power of
the word and the ability to give one's
thoughts to another. Writing is a
skill. And a wonderful skill to
possess. That's why we invite other
writers to have a 'go' right here at
www.jifl.net.
This is an open invitation. If you
think that you have something to say
and that it is worthwhile and, most
importantly, 'entertaining to others'
then feel free to contact us and post
your piece. Meanwhile, for the rest of
humanity, you have the blog at
www.jifl.blog.net
to post your thoughts and observations.
For me personally, there is nothing
really to comment on the league since
lately so many matches have been
postponed that I am just letting the
captains figure out what they want to
do about it and then we will meet the
first week of January 2010 to discuss
terms and create the 2nd half schedule.
Meanwhile, start
thinking about the
World Cup 6'ers - 2010
which will be held in mid-May 2010
either at ISCI or at Sentul. Same
rules as the actual World Cup. Each
team must be of the nationality with
valid passports of the country that
they represent. At the moment, I know
only that the Italians are ready. And
I trust that the Germans are ready.
And certainly Indonesia is ready to
defend it's 2008 crown. That leaves us
with the USA, Cameroon (2006
Champions), England, Holland, Japan,
China, Singapore, Malaysia, Belgium,
France, Russia, Brazil, Ireland, Wales,
Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, Canada,
Mexico, Australia, New Zealand as the
24 earmarked teams that are to be
representing their countries in the
next World Cup 6'ers. Any other
countries not mentioned who want to get
into the competition then please
contact us and we will arrange your
place confirmed in 2010 finals.
