Dear Football Apprentices,
It has been a long
time coming (since the 2001-02 season, in
fact), but finally the young fellers at DoIt Satu Lagi
have won the JiFL Championship for their 4th time in history
becoming the 2008-09 Champions of the JiFL. This trophy lands
them falling just one short of FC JIS and the
formerly almighty Wanderers who currently hold
five a piece but seals them as a permanent member of the big 4
along with German Plus (also with 4
championships) in JiFL history. DoIt fought it out long and
hard all season with the Magnificent Vikings to
finally take a hard earned 1-0 victory at BIS seeing the Vikings
never to recover to the remainder of the season. And although a
marvelous run, DoIt persevered through a nearly perfect season
winning both the Obama Cup and the league in
the end. Congratulations for an excellent & unified effort to
FC DoIt and another special congratulations from the editor to
their manager Ian Roberts and stalwart captain Ronan
O'Neill (of the O'Neill football dynasty of Ireland).
Another huge
congratulations (and relief for the entire history of the
league) when the JiFL Cup stranglehold that the Wanderers had
preserved over 6 years was finally broken. The 8th Finals
appearance and 7th Cup on the trot (last beaten by JIS in 2002)
was denied and the streak of 42 victorious Cup matches in-a-row
was broken by a magnificent performance from one young
Milan Bloem of FC JIS
who took 4 goals for himself in his inspired final match for FC
JIS and Cup Final victory last Saturday evening at ISCI by a
final score of 5-2. JIS supporters came out in droves to cheer
their beloved on and JIS took the trophy this year with a most
excellent team performance snatching victory from the formerly
almighty. Well done to everybody involved in the event. It
will be long remembered.
Keep in mind the
last events of the 2008-09 season: Saturday, May 23rd is
the day and the night. JiFL Golfers come to
Pangkilan Jati Golf Course before 11:00 AM to
check in and tee-off. The cost per person is only RP.
375,000 per player. Arrive early and
send your team list by Friday.
And later we will all meet up at
Eastern Promise in Kemang for the party at 20:00 PM.
All the Top Awards will be given out including the first
Lifetime Achievement Award of the JiFL to a worthy and rugged
individual, Top Goal Scorer, MVP (Most Man of the Matches)
Award, Top Referee Award, 'Spirit of the League' Award,
League Trophy & Cup Trophy, JiFL Golf Champions, and the coveted
Player's Player of the Year Award plus the League
Donkey Award. This is the best party of the year, gentlemen, so
bring your family, friends and supporters and see you at
EP on Saturday evening. I won't MC so there is reason
for some of you to come after all.
Until then... see you live... at the Party,
