A
smile to your face
Dear Kickermaniacs,
Greetings to you all. I
wanted to mention that the Grasshoppers
defeated the formerly almighty Wanderers
2-0 last week and celebrated a historical moment that was good
for the league but recently Marvin sprang a little
psychological tool on me and mentioned that I was pointing
out problems but not providing solutions. This froze me
on the spot and I immediately tried to identify solutions
simultaneously as I spotted potential problems. This then
got me to thinking of outcomes before institutionalizing
changes. Therefore, I have several announcements to make
in this week's Newsletter with problems & solutions
provided side-by-side. So here we go:
Regarding proper
footballs:
Being the most important part
of the entire process for all that which is playing the
game of football, Ray Goggles had another 'Sepp Blater FIFA' moment recently, when
he took
Newsletter No.10 into serious consideration and
decided that we should approach the league chairman,
Phillip Knaggs, with the idea that the
league itself can afford to and should provide a uniformed
football for match play. His idea being that we purchase
20-30 balls of one high quality and have three balls
available to every team for each match. The referees
could be in charge of this aspect of the equipment. This
solution provides a
standardization for ball quality and
consistency that we needed in the league and an amount of
added organization that does not affect the clubs
themselves in any way. We just need Herr Jesper Boutrup,
to release funds to pay for the league balls. Besides, we
have the funds available since we haven't thrown any
parties for ages in this league.
Regarding JIFL-ISCI
Futsal Tournament February 28th, 2009:
Because ISCI's renovations to adapt the gym will not be
ready on time, we are going to move the tournament to a
later date most likely at the end of the season. This
gives every team more time to choose their sides. Most
teams should be able to put 2 sides in of 6-8 players per
side. We will maintain the entries to 16 teams as
originally planned. And we may move the tournament to the
new futsal center across the street from ISCI (where they
have two fields with artificial grass) on a Saturday
morning. Any teams wishing to book outstanding JIFL
matches for Feb. 28th then feel free to do so at this
time.
Regarding
Arsenal SSI
Semester 3:
Semester 3 is starting up and SSI wants
everybody to know that 'Arsenal is for Everybody'.
It is not exclusive and you mustn't be invited or
recruited by the coaches contrary to popular rumour.
SSI has an open-house policy. Come and
try a session at no cost. Join if you want under no
pressure. Click on
Arsenalindonesia.com for more information.
Regarding
2009 Champion's League Final
on Saturday:
UIFL (United International Football
Leagues) Champion's League Final:
Saturday, Feb. 21st, 2009 - Wanderers of
Jakarta, Indonesia -vs- Red Asterixs of
Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia postponed to June do to severe
and unpredictable weather at this time.
Well, those are the most
important things that you all wanted to know this week.
Check the league standings below. Interesting at the top
with Vikings and DoIt
coming up on the standoff of the season. Check
the schedule for that. That particular contest should be
televised. I'm gonna be there. It is well worth it and
one more thing before I go.... it's good seeing the
Wanderers lose matches, isn't it? You know it makes you
feel good inside and brings a smile to your face. Admit
it... and until then, see you Live on the Pitches...
Your Hero

WANDERERS |
Oh
yesss, it feels good, it really does. For long time already
we owed ourselves a victory like this one, combining very good
football but a lot of attitude. We all knew that Wednesday
was going to be D-day, previous games against Wanderers ended
as unfair defeats and draws many times. This time
finally luck changed and One Tree proved everybody what is
perfectly known by its members: with a full team and the right
attitude we have enough potential to win against anybody in
the JIFL League.
As usual against a great team like Wanderers the game started
very even, also the ball was hard to control due to the
previous rains and the pitch not being at its best. However a
very focused team starting from excellent and confident
performances throughout all defense (a total achievement since
beginning of the league) by toughs Marc and "feel my elbow"
Jeff + Reza in very good shape transmitting calmness to the
team. A great, GREAT game for Jean Paul who managed to
control the midfield and Wanderers most dangerous strikers.
The joint work by offensive midfield and strikers was also
key, Nico Clementz, Guillermo and Patty built a solid circuit
of short and safe passes to keep the ball and wait for the
right moment to give it to Nico No, Armand or themselves to
hurt Wanderers through long passes creating many goal options.
The first goal came after a quick start by Alex and Armand who
then gave the ball to Jean Paul who managed to dribble 3 guys
and sent a long pass to Nico Clementz who next to the goal had
nothing else to do but give a pass to the net... 1-0 but not
enough, once Wanderers played the ball after the 1st
goal, One Tree went to pressure them again and trying to get
the ball (best weapon is to attack, not defend!). Guillermo got the ball from Nico Clementz and sent at once a long pass
to Nico No behind Wanderer's last defender, Nico No decided to
kick that air ball at once even though being very far from the
goal and as a result he got such a tremendous goal and not
expected after the ball was lying in the air like for 4
seconds, it took everybody 2 or 3 seconds to celebrate once
the ball netted.
Second half, as any team would expect saw Wanderers coming
very aggressively towards One Tree's goal, Grasshoppers
instead tried to control the ball and waited for the right
option to score a one more and lethal goal. It is fair to
admit that Wanderers created a couple of very close to being
goal actions, Reza at its best avoided many, also the bar
contributed and an enormous Giovanola saved one ball on the
line. When subs came in partly because unfair yellow cards
and partly because some players fatigue,
Alessandro, Camara, Hugo, Javier, Vincent showed the same
commitment and great football like the players already on the
pitch.
No goals in 2nd half and finally it was a 2-0 for One Tree. A
great team-work game which was largely celebrated not only in
Jakarta but in Russia by Yuri watching it live with a couple
of vodka bottles, Andre almost on its way to hospital (get
better soon banci) and in Argentina by Piojo Guitarte and
Gaston who were following the match minute to minute by phone.
This is also yours guys...
Last but not least, the writer on behalf of the team would
like to mention the horrendous game the referee had. Moreover
it seems right to complain about such a scandalous way of
referring from the winning side, otherwise once you lose
people might think the criticism comes mainly because you
lost. That's not the case, fortunately it was a 2-0 for us
but the ref seemed to have done all he could to avoid One
Tree's victory. Our players were being sent off (yellow
cards) for stupid things such as normal ball challenges or
-and this is the worst one- because one of our strikers scored
but the play was invalid due to an offside! 5 minutes before
that, the ref was insulted and pushed twice by a Wanderers
player and nothing happened... Unacceptable!

“ Do It keep pressure on the chasing pack”
Do
it kept up the pressure on the chasing pack with a tough
fought win over a resilient JIS thanks to a fine late push.
After the recent thumping handed out to JIS the JIS boys were
certainly not going to allow the same to happen again, and
fielded a young team to try and keep the Do it boys at bay.
Game started similar to the last game with Do it pushing hard
and taking an early lead. A long crossfield ball from Lewis
over the top of the defence allowed Pikey Dua to get one on
one with the keeper and he nodded the bouncing ball over him
and in to the net for a well taken goal. From then on it was a
pretty tight affair with JIS relying on the pace of their
youngsters up front and a tenacious midfield keeping the game
tight. No further great chances came in the first half apart
from a solid penalty claim when Pikey Dua was clearly pushed
in the back while going for a cross. First half ended with the
scoreline at 1-0 to Do It.
Second half started similar to the first with a pretty tight
game but Do It slightly on top. However in a bit of a
breakaway
JIS equalized after a speculative cross that was heading
toward Erwin but Milan nipped in front and touched the ball
past
the keeper for the equalizer. Game on !!
Do It responded to this very well as their midfield started to
take a grip on the game, and before long had a great chance
to go ahead after a pretty clear penalty was given for
handball. However, in true Pikey fashion like his big (round )
brother he took an absolute crap penalty and although the
keeper tried hard to get out of the way, his hat fell off and
stopped it on the line. Still one each. The missed penalty
could have easily spurred on JIS but in fact it was Do it who
continued to push and got back in to the lead via a free kick.
Again lots of players wanted to take the penalty but Ian in
true bully boy fashion pushed them all away and yet again
found the net with a crap free kick that may not have reached
the goal but was accelerated and re-directed toward the goal.
2-1 to Do It. Although JIS still had the occasional foray up
front Do It were still playing the better and creating
chances. Against the run of play though JIS got a great
opportunity to equalize when they were awarded a penalty for a
push in the back very similar to the one denied to Do It in
the first half.
However, truth be told it was probably the correct decision.
Milan stepped out to take the pen and although it was about
100 times better than Pikey dua’s Erwin got across well to
parry, as Milan run in and hit the follow up shot Erwin again
dived bravely and saved with his face. Great double save !.
This seemed to really be the final nail on the coffin for JIS
and their heads went down. A third goal followed shortly with
a good run from Pikey Dua to the by-line and a dangerous cross
was stuck away by a JIS defender fortunately as it was going
towards Eric. 3-1 Do it.
As the game moved toward the end Do it were well on top and a
fourth goal game when super Al broke clear and coolly slotted
to make the final score 4-1.

Unlike
the previous meeting between these 2 teams, this was a close
match and the score line does not really reflect what the game
was like.
Things could have been very different if JIS would not have
missed a penalty kick with 10 minutes left to play and Do It
only leading by 2-1.
Erwin, the Do It keeper, came up with 2 stunning saves to deny
Milan Bloem twice and to deny JIS to tie the game. Two minutes
later a JIS own goal decided the match with Do It adding
insult to injury by scoring a 4th in the dying seconds of the
match.
