Dear Football Famosas,
We have witnessed the crowning
of a new president the past couple of weeks who appears to
have reached cult-like rock star status. The expectations
are tremendous almost overwhelming that this man leads like
no other before him. Not since the short reign of
John F. Kennedy have we seen such a new iconic
personality in office. Relating back to my old friend
Zoran Savic [Newsletter no. 8] was quoted
as saying that people want and need to a leader, that is the
only way that I can get a handle on the situation. Let's
hope that the man succeeds and is able to bring back the
ideals that America is supposed to be famous for and the
hope that all of us can slow down, work together, and make
this a much better world to live in now and in the future
and, incidentally, which brings us to our league.
Reviewing the last decade that
I have been involved in our league, I am proud of all of our
contributions that made this a community that is important
to all of us. I have witnessed us evolving into a group of
people united by playing football that generally care for
one another. We have given our blood, sweat, and tears to
creating something permanent starting back nearly 20 years
ago when Arnold van Der Veen
[Newsletter
No. 17 Vol 1] first led us even before most of us were
involved at any level or even knew where Jakarta was in the
world. Now we know and those of us involved in the league
are grateful for the work that paved the road for us to
enjoy such a tight knit community.
It's funny. Football brought
us together and football keeps us together. There is
nothing wrong with that and now let's take a peek back in
the week.
Vikings: The Vikings continued their romp
to the title still undefeated with a hard fought victory
over Arario Korea a week ago last Wednesday
evening at ISCI with a final score 4-1. And then another
victory against FC JIS on Wednesday with a
2-1 final score remaining Top o' the Table. But going back
to Arario, it is obvious to see the improvement that team
has accomplished over the past couple of years and it was
good to see that they had a full squad of 18 players
available for the match with everybody playing plenty of
time considering that the referees let the game play for 50+
minutes in each half. And it was nice to see that the
Korean players brought their families along to enjoy the
event with them. It was a long game and witnessed the
two new Arsenal SSI
UK coaches, Ben Luck and Callum
McHardy, making their Vikings debut. The team
looks promising, young and strong. I look forward to
playing against them as should we all.

Fantasy
League
The festive season is well and truly over, every one is back
at work and the second leg of the JIFL is under way. It has
therefore been a while since the last update, so let us take a
quick look at the standings. If you can still remember it was
‘Fredensvang’ that held the prime position before Christmas
came upon us with ‘Bagus Sekali’ a close second and ‘Pirate
Cat fc’ in third.
Well! Eleven teams have moved up the table and eleven teams
have taken a slide with four holding the same slot as they had
last time round. ‘Bagus Sekali’ has yo-yoed a bit but have
managed to cling to second place, the same can be said for
‘halftimeciggie’ at seventeen, ‘Ilko fc’ at nineteen and ‘SSI
ArsenalIndonesia’ at twenty.
Most notable moves came from ‘No Mercy’ and ‘Hwarakadah’ that
climbed eleven places to take third and seven places to take
fourth respectively, ‘Fredensvang’ has slid down to fifth
place whilst the ‘Fantssists’ stole the first place position,
sixteen points clear of the nearest contender.
There is still a ways to go before anyone can lay claim to the
crown, so keep your eyes open for further updates on the ‘JIFL
Fantasy League’ to see whose up and whose down next time
around.

LIONS |
A
quick recovery for One Tree after last week's tough defeat
against JIS. The match against Lions gave us a good
opportunity for some kind of a redemption, trying to achieve
second leg's team objective: win, play good football and
improve our weak defense...
Oddly, no referees showed up for the game, both teams Captains
had previously arranged with JIFL committee and ISCI about
this game being played but unfortunately there was a
misunderstanding, it seems... Anyhow, Reza kindly offered
himself to ref and his performance was more than
acceptable.
From beginning till the end One Tree controlled the game
creating many chances, though it was one of those games were
everybody seem to be doing one more dribble instead of
scoring. Passing did not work very well also, thus many
chances were missed by not giving the ball to a teammate in
better position to score. For sure, something to be
improved...
First half ended 2-0, Guillermo scored with a header after
Marc's precise corner kick and then Alex scored after a nice
personal move dribbling two guys and shooting from a closed
angle.
Second half remained pretty much the same, One Tree's defense
was very safe and focused the whole game and thus Lions could
not approach with serious danger to Yahya's goal. A great
move by Patty left Armand to score One
Tree's last goal. That sealed the match with a 3-0

VIKINGS |
JIS-Vikings
was a very close game. In the first half JIS dominated play
and deservedly took the lead when Jurrien headed in a Lance
Murgatroyd’ s corner 1-0 JIS. Despite creating several more
opportunities JIS couldn’t score more goals to extend their
lead. Vikings made JIS pay for this and had a blistering start
of the second half........ithin 5 minutes they scored twice,
taking the lead 2-1.
Second half was a much closer affair with chances for both
sides but neither team was able to find the back of the net
again. Congrats to Vikings for a 2-1 victory although a draw
would have probably been a fair result.
