The champions are among us

Dear Champions,
Do you know the difference between a champion and a winner? Well, a winner will win a match or even a title. But a champion will win it repeatedly. A champion stays on top. Envision Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan or the even the great Pele. Longevity is a key

issue here. To maintain that form, that desire, and to repeat it over and over again. That is champion coursing through the veins of that fine gentleman. Look around you and identify the champions among you. They are there. See them.

BuGils is closing! Oh no!
Where will Bart go? Bart, you can stay at my place. Just give me a ring and you can come stay as long as you like.

The Barack Obama Cup Champions 2008

Do It Satu Lagi Champions
In a nail-biting penalty-kick shoot-out after 40 minutes of play at 0-0, the current league leaders Do It Satu Lagi edged out the 5 time league champions the Wanderers 4-3 in penalties.

Eladio & Your Hero of the Wanderers as well as Ronan O'Neil of Do It missed their attempts while all the rest of the team scored their tries. Congratulations Do It. Onto the League and Cup titles...!

Rumor Mill Central by Ali Baba

Hello XXXX,
meanwhile our Captain XXXX has confirmed the match for December XXth at XXXX. One question to you: Is it really correct that you/Wanderers are paying certain players IDR 500.000 per match so that they join the Wanderers? I cannot believe that, because it would be completely against the spirit of our league. Let me know please. Cheers, XXXX

That email came today to my inbox. I changed the names and any identifiable characters to protect the innocent but I find it almost tasteless that those rumors continue to surface every few years. I wish that we were getting paid instead of having to pay 3 juta rupiah per annum to play for the Wanderers. But indeed we do. But really that is a small fee to play amongst so fine an assembly of players as the league has never seen before. In fact, few leagues in the world have such teams. Perhaps Real Madrid, Arsenal (World Youth Team), Manchester United, Barcelona, AC

Milan, Inter Milan, the New York Cosmos and the Wanderers are about the only clubs in the world that can afford to pay their players nowadays under the curent world financial strains.
Amazing that you are all grown adults out there and you still spread such gossip. Should be ashamed of yourselves and complimented that such famous names are willing the spend their time with us on the football fields. I, for one, am appreciative of their efforts to strenghten the community roots and become friends of all of us.

3 dec. 8.PM JIS JIS 2 4 WANDERERS

Goals JIS: Milan Bloem 2
Goals Wanderers: Hernan 2, Daniela 1
MoM JIS: Will Julius
MoM Wanderers: Eladio
Ref: 6 / 10 (JIS), 9/10 (Wanderers)

JIS-Wanderers was an eventful affair with 6 goals.....amazingly enough......all scored in the first half.

JIS went off to a flying start and took a 2 goal lead within the first 15 minutes of the match. First Milan stole the ball off Wanderer defenders Jules and calmly slotted home: 1-0 JIS Ten minutes later Nico crossed the ball to Will who headed the ball back to leave Milan with an easy tap in: 2-0 JIS.

Than JIS started to sit back.....the thing you shouldn’t do against the Wanderers and we got punished for it. Before we knew it they were level and added 2 more right before half time 2-4 Wanderers.

During the second half the score didn’t chance, which was almost a miracle considering the amount of chances that were created by both sides. Wanderers had most of the possession and missed a sitter to kill off the game. JIS on the other hand had more chances with Gordon Boyd hitting the post and Will Julius and Milan Bloem missing one on one with the Wanderers keeper.

Letter from the chair

Ay Up

Well, I managed to get to a few games of the Obama Cup at ISCI over the weekend, and though at time of writing I'm not sure who won, it would surprise me if it wasn't either Do IT or the Wanderers. It's great for the
JIFL that the Wanderers seem to have some serious competition this season after dominating both the league and the cup for so long.

What many people won't know is that their humble beginning began with a meeting between myself, Mike Wildblood, and John Chester at the Eastern Promise almost 20 years ago. We discussed forming a team from the remnants of the old "school" team of EEP, EEC, and ILP players. At first, our "home" ground was Blok S and although we played friendlies with league teams, we were far from being ready for the big league.

Nevertheless, we were notorious from the beginning as a drinking team, and our old haunt of the sportsman gained much income from our all day Saturday drinking binges (we would normally play at 8 in the morning)

Early characters in the team included Terry Collins, Dave Jardine, and a young striker named John Harrington. After entering the league, in possibly our fourth season, we were well thrashed by most teams until the infamous "Night of The Long Knives", when "blood" was spilled and Carl Albi was made captain. After a couple more seasons, although still near the bottom of the league, we surprisingly had enough to form The Wanderers
Rovers, who would later become "The Mighty Lions".

And the rest is history. Slowly, the Wanderers shed itself of the crap, the unfit, and the unworthy (I'm not sure whether I was all these 3 or not!) and took the league and cup a historic number of times. Of course, I've only scratched at the surface of a club which has seen both the best and the worst of times. So here's to The Wanderers, love em or hate you certainly can't talk about a history of the JIFL without them.

Keep smiling,

Philip.
