Better teams than the other

Dear Fantasticos de Futebol,

I actually have that feeling that I had back in the old days when I got a little nervous before the match. Sometimes, I am even nervous in the morning when I wake up and think a little bit about the match that is going to be played later on that evening. I actually look at the tables and try to figure out who is going to win which match and how that is going to affect the league table. I check the results of matches being played via SMS. And, best of all, I see that it is just not me who appears overly enthusiastic. Many of the lads around the league are checking their team’s records and estimating what three points here or one point there will do to their club’s current standings and how it will affect the standings of others in the tables. It’s cool. I like it. And, most of all, I am proud of our league.

I can honestly tell you that I have seen the levels of the other ‘JIFL’s around South East Asia and comparatively we play a better and more competitive standard than the others. We have a faster league than the others. And we have overall better teams than the others. One reason that this is true is simply that we have overall better individual players based here in Jakarta than the other ex-patriot cities in South East Asia. Said quite simply, “Ours is the best”. Now, one of the proudest days of my life is going to be the day that every team really shows up in full matching kits from top to bottom. There I said it. You heard me!
All the Best,
Your Hero

6 sept. 3.30PM SENTUL JAPAN 2 3 ONE TREE

A very tough league opening game for One Tree.  The team was pretty weak in defense and midfield and luckily got to score 3 times to win the first match of JIFL'08. After a bad start, One tree managed to control the game and went ahead 3-1 on the score, but not having enough subs + Nico Clementz being sent off due to yellow card, made the last 20 minutes of the game quite a suffering with the whole team defending and the Japanese team attacking everywhere and missing chances.  Finally it was 3-2 for One Tree, but 5 more minutes would have made it a draw.

13 sept. 3.30PM BIS DO IT 5 1 ONE TREE

A squad of 15 turned up for this start of the season clash against “One Tree”. The visitors started off as D’s finished as they turned up about 20 minutes late and a squad of fourteen year olds. Both teams started out with attacking formations but do It soon got the upper hand in midfield and started to take a grip on the game. Pikey dua and Rudy’s pace up front continually caused problems for the One Tree defence and around the 25 minute mark a break through from Rudy resulted in a ricochet towards Pikey Dua and he rammed home from 20 yards with a hint of a deflection from the keeper. One Tree pushed hard to get back on level terms before half time and from one of there many free kicks managed a header on goal that Gareth managed to play a one two (with the post) prior to clearing. Within minutes One Tree again were given a free kick about 30 yards out and this one flew past the wall and thumped the post square on and bounced to safety. Half time Do it winning by the solitary goal.

Second half got under way and it seemed that Do It’s get up and go had got up and left at half time. A few scary minutes with yet more dodgy free kicks awarded but Do It defence held firm and finally Do It got there second wind and with Jason the rock pulled in to the centre of midfield slowly got a grip of the game again. Within a space of around 15 minutes Pikey Dua had clocked another goal along with Fandi which put the game beyond one tree. The game was over as a contest and dwindling away when One Tree were awarded a dubious penalty for handball by either Lucas or Fandi but realistically a very soft one. No sooner had One Tree scored when Pikey Dua put the game well beyond doubt with another couple of good goals. All in all a well deserved victory and good all round performance. Useless as a ref, however fetching fluorescent pink top and a Lebaran bonus meant an improvement to 3 / 10.

- Lucas - Do It

Perhaps one of the worst games in the history of this team. Everything went bad since Do It scored the first goal, till then the game was very even, but then again after that first goal One Tree totally lost control of the game. Only two strikers managed to drive One Tree's defense crazy, making once again a terrible defense game for One Tree...

Beginning of second half showed the best of One Tree going with attitude and decision to tie the game, but 3 clear occasions were missed and then once again Do It took advantage of One Tree's weak defense and scored after a perfect counter-attack.

After that, Do It managed the game "a piacere" and scored a couple more. Nico Clementz scored by penalty shot for One Tree but it was too late. Certainly a game not to be remembered for One Tree.
