JIFL News N°10. vol 3. Season 2006-2007

:: Edito

E
very cloud has a silver lining

Dear Brothers and Sisters in football,

Even I was wondering if I was ever going to find the right time to write the 2006-07 JIFL final newsletter for the season.... even I.  Well, this is not it.  There will be one more coming out next week.  And, in a moment, you will all know the reasons why.

First, here is the happy news....

The Wanderers are the JiFL League Champions again and the Wanderers are the JiFL Cup Champions again and the Wanderers won the Knudde 6-a-side again!  That is our league's version of winning the treble.  This is the second time in the club history that they have won the treble.  But I do believe that the current team is the best team that they have ever put together with this season's new editions in internationals Fandi Ahmad of Singapore, Eladio of Chile, Hernan of Argentina & Todd Showalter of the USA along with the young lads, Nico Nemalceff and Padi Onana, which gave a load of relief to the longtime veterans of the club.

And you know deep inside that you are all proud to have such a good team in the league even if you are tired of the team's successes and are secretly starting to hate them deep down (much the same the way that I am being eaten from the inside out whenever I see or think of Chelsea playing).

Now here is the sad news....

Nobody in the league except members of the Wanderers remembers what the JiFL Cup is supposed to look like anymore since nobody has seen one of those contraptions for the last 5 years.  The last time any team won one was way back when JIS took out the Wanderers in a penalty kick shootout 2002.  Maybe the Cup should be renamed the Wanderers Cup?  C'mon, people!  Somebody give these boys a game and quit letting them dominate the Cup finals every year.

And the super happy news....

Arsenal is coming to town!  Reserve September 2nd for a visit to ISCI.  The Arsenal reserve & youth coaching staff will be at ISCI to launch the new SSI Arsenal Soccer School.  This program will utilize the Arsenal Youth Training Modules and the organization itself will serve as a direct line to the big boys like Arsen Wenger at Arsenal in England.  All kinds of new relationships are being forged and finally, we know that if your child has the ability, he will surely and certainly have a real chance to test at and for Arsenal.  Not just idle talk but a real and guaranteed chance that is professionally managed by veteran licensed coaches and managers.  Indonesia needs such organizations as this to help stabilize the local soccer scene and to make our local youth football do one important thing which is to develop.  With development comes progress.  And I love that word 'progress'...

And now here is the super sad news....

Our beloved Knudde will no longer be with us this season.  Wouter Lindner, the superb manager of that pioneering and foundational club, is leaving us and with him goes the heart of the club.  Several players have also left and it seems the struggle to form a team and organize it will be greater than the return reward so for now, Knudde R.I.P.. We hope that someone somehow sometime will come along and resurrect the club from the abyss.

But the JiFL should be picking up the New Team Korea (negotiations are underway) and ASA is forming a team that should be ready come late October / Nov.  They will start later but make up the matches promptly.  That is the plan.  Lee will let us know shortly at the bi-annual captains meeting which is coming soon to de Hooi and which will be held there in honor of Wouter on Sunday, August 26th.  We will miss this man and I, for one, have never heard a bad word spoken about him (I hope that somebody says that about me someday).

Footnote: Captains please be ready with your schedules, demands, complaints, payments and otherwise for the meeting.

But here is some more good news & bad news....

The World Cup 6'ers is on again (good news).... but it has been postponed until after Ramadhan (bad news).

World Cup 6'ers
Not September 1st -but- the end of October - 2007

Start contacting your lads and getting them lined up for the annual event which will be held towards the end of October.

Manager / captains can start planning for the event and picking their selections ! Keep in mind that your players must be current nationals of the country that they represent just like in the actual World Cup.

Although there is some more bad news....

But it has been postponed to just after Lebaran towards the end of October.

And, sorry... here is even more bad news that is actually good news....

ESE (Euro Soccer Excellence) has been absorbed by Arsenal Soccer Schools and so will no longer manage the JiFL after 5 seasons of dedicated and loving devotion. ESE served its purpose and contributed greatly to the youth soccer scene throughout the years lending its energy, expertise and support to nearly every league and youth tournament in Jakarta for the X-pat community.  Over 1000 children went through the organization throughout the years and many went on to play in university and college.  Now it is time that a bigger and stronger entity like Arsenal moves in and takes up the void that would have existed without ESE.  We appreciate all that ESE has done for the JiFL (and the local soccer scene in general) and we thank Dean Wheatley for creating and bringing that organization to Jakarta just under a decade ago.  It will be missed (but Arsenal will be better).

But every cloud has a silver lining....

is taking over from ESE and will manage the JiFL from now on.  SuperSkills will also manage the World Cup 6'ers while Arsenal will take over hosting the annual Knudde 6'ers so that tournament will remain in existence regardless and be just as good as it has been under Wouter and Arnold.

So, my friends... would you agree that Paris is located in France?  Yes, you say?  Good!  Then we are in agreement (at least until next week).  By the way, it's my birthday today.  No need to comment as I already know that you all wish me always and only...

All the Best,

Your Hero
