Season 2006-2007
:: Edito
A rare honour
Yeah, I know... this one has been a long time
coming. But, you see, it took a spark to get me going again and
with my regular workload and all its just difficult to get
motivated at times but something the other night got under my
craw and now I've just got to tell you about it. Ray
Goo-Goggs is back in the news ! After our match on
Sunday at Blok M's Stadium Olah Raga, members
of both sides went over to the Eastern Promise
on Lensy's invitation. But firstly, before I go on with that
story, I need to make a few of announcements that have been a
long time coming. First of all, the JIFL would like to extend a hearty welcome to Singapore's favorite son, Fandi Ahmad to the league. Fandi made his debut against DOIT a few weeks ago and was duly granted Man of the Match honours. He followed that performance up with a cracking goal from 25 yards out against the former 'greatest 'keeper that ever was', Jan Gramm of the Vikings in the first round of the JIFL Cup last week. It is great having players of this caliber joining our clubs and we welcome Fandi with warmth and respect. If you are new to Asia and perhaps unfamiliar with that name then do a web search and see how some 30,000. pages will pop up for you to choose from... Which brings us to the annual Knudde 6'ers at Sentul. Knudder 6'ers - Saturday, May 26th, 2007 World Cup 6'ers - Saturday, September
1st - 2007
So here is the setting: There we were sitting,
Mike Wildblood, Ray Googlespecs
and myself Sunday evening. We had this rare chance to sit with
Ray and listen to his load of bollocks (yet again) and I have to
warn you that the dimension that he is living in is becoming
increasingly demented. He has now progressed to the point where
he actually and firmly believes that he is an adept and knowledgable footballer and one of the better players in the
league. Can you believe that? Now, if you dain't knay of whom
I talking about then look at the picture and plant it firmly in
your head while reading the rest of this passage.
I, in my mercy, tried to convince him of the truth which is that he is actually the all-time worse footballer that our league had ever experienced (in history) but he wasn't having it. I gave my best effort in explaining to him that we only allow him to play in the league because he is so completely bad that he has basically become our collective mascot. I tried my best, without mincing words, to tell him that he is allowed to stay around simply for the fact that any other player who has ever had a terrible day on the field can always just say 'well, at least I didn't play as badly as Ray Gogg'. But, incredibly, Goggs has convinced himself that he is one of the better of the English in the league and now wants to play for England in the World Cup 6's this year! Not only does he demand to play for England but he wants to pick the selection as well. He is convinced that since the English side did not win the original Cup last June than that is the fault of the selector and the management and that he needs to be the leader from now on. Hold on... it gets better. He believes that the boys (the best English players from the JIFL) are not the best players at all even though the annual JIFL awards like MVP (Most Valuable Player based on the most Man of the Matches selections per season) or the coveted Player's Player of the Year award, which is where the members of the league actually vote for whomever they think was the season's overall top player, do not indicate whom the best players actually are by any means. And the fact that the English boys have been winning these awards on a regular basis indicates nothing according to Ray. No, Ray Gu-Goggley believes only one thing - that which comes out of his mouth. Well, I wish him the best of luck in getting the English contingency to agree with him and, more importantly, to listen to that same inexplicable hogwash that I was so privileged to be privy to on Sunday evening. And, finally, don't worry about this little siloquay hurting Ray's feelings. It won't affect him all. He likes to be mentioned in the Newsletter and has already let me know in no uncertain terms that his name is not nearly mentioned enough. Just make sure that you get the spelling right - R-A-Y G-U G-O-G-G-S - my hero (and I'm not even English) ! The Rifle and the Pistol ![]() The beauty of our league is not only the social side amongst friends but also the ability to play together with your progeny. Uwe Luedecker and Young Will Julius are another formidable father and son two man team who play for JIS. Like Jules and sons, Uwe too is delighted to play alongside his son and Young Will Julius will one day look back on these days and realize that playing alongside his father was a rare honour that comes seldom in life and never for most of us. Their collective philosophy: Uwe gets the ball and hoofs it 40 yards up to Young Wil. Wil collects it, twists and turns, beats the defender, scores the goal and receives Man of the Match honours. Thanks Dad, Mama is proud. We now have approximately 5 father and son match-ups in various clubs throughout the league. And we have at least another 4 sons of retired players in other teams throughout as well. This is a really good thing that even those of us who are barren without proof of our existence can vicariously feel and delight in. -The Listener

After 3 hours of relentless rain the JIS pitch was amazingly enough still in good enough condition to play this
league match. Unfortunately Japan only had 10 players throughout the match, but

German
Plus vs Wanderers, a real thriller with 10 goals. The Wanderers arrived late and
at 3:45pm still had no minimum of 8 players available. However German Plus well
known for it's leniency agreed to wait until the Mighty Wanderers were complete.
So the match started well after 4pm. Silent Dale upon arrival declared the
German Plus coolers with aqua and beer complementary for both teams. At the end
therefore we were short of Aqua again and also a beer bottle taking away by
Silent Dale went missing. German Plus is now on the edge of bankruptcy. [German + report mentions result as 1-9 but Wanderers say 1-10 - Please confirm accordingly ]
The
Wanderers went to Little Germany and opened a FuBball Schule on Saturday. After
Howie refused to send directions either by e-mail or phone, the Wanderers
eventually found the miniture football field which, incidentally, is in superb
condition and is actually FIFA regulations actual minimum size allowable for a
professional football match. And I for one will recommend it to any team to do
themselves a favour and get out there to play on a Saturday afternoon. It is a
brilliant day of football where the Germans supply all the drinks including beer
gratis as a show of spectacular support for their opponents. Everyone whom has
ever visited Deutschland will agree that the people of the great nation of
Germany are some of the finest hosts that one can encounter in Europe let alone
the world. I think that that is an excellent gesture considering that it is
indeed just a little farther to travel than ISCI and that German Plus (the most
traditional club and longest existing at 40 plus years) show the opponents such
a fine gesture as they did for us. Please continue that tradition on each
occasion when the other JIFL clubs come out to DIS for a match. Howie and Dieter
are both considered 'mensch!'. I will add that they are both fine gentlemen of
some taste and character as well. Thank you for the fantastic day. We will
cherish it always.

Again
our lack of ability to penetrate our opponents defense and our lack of sharpness
to convert the few (half) chances we actually do create cost us dearly. Although
we dominated 2nd half we ended up loosing 0-1 which also was the score at
halftime. Nevertheless, it was a good team effort with Jonathan being very solid
indeed.
Scorers : Arifin (1) (Lions), Richard Neale (1) A rearranged game at ISCI for Sunday, 5pm unfortunately coincided with the Jakmania (fans of Persija) leaving the ground at Lebak Bulus en masse causing huge traffic jams and many players being late (sorry!). Thus, the game didn't kick off until just before 6pm, by which point Lions had 9 players (including 1 guy on holiday who had turned up to play for us and the linesman in goal!). That's what I love about the league, a game played hard but with an underlying friendliness and accepting that this is not the Premier League and we are just 22 lads (or in this case 19.5!) coming for a game. Oh no, starting to sound like Dale.....Let's move on ;) Bugils had numerical advantage in the first half, but
couldn't make it count against the hardworking Lions. It was a pretty even first
half, especially as Lions were up to 11 players by half-time. In the second,
Bugils defended quite well, but were struggling for possession in midfield.
Lions' wingers were fast and creating trouble and it was on one of these breaks
that Lions took the lead. Bugils created a couple of chances and were pushing
for an equaliser, but this meant that the Lions had more freedom upfront, which
coincided with the arrival of Arsen; with a couple of minutes to go, Richard
finished nicely to make it 2-0. It was really disappointing for us, as even with
more players (and lots of subs) we failed to string passes together against the
Lions, and they made us pay! Notable performances from JB in goal (as always)
and Little John who almost emulated one of Alonso's goals from his own half,
which passed narrowly wide! Cheers all,
The
game started late because of Lions were short, Bugils by contrast had a huge
squad of about 20. Bugils allowed a late KO waiting on traveling Lions but Lions
could only field 8 players to start. Bugils transferred a visiting Dutchman and
allowed Lions to field an official in goal. Bugils didn’t take advantage of the
make-shift Lions 10, the first half was about even with the best chances falling
to the Lions, both sides started to slow up in the second half but Lions took
advantage of 2 late opportunities with Arif getting the first and Richard N
getting the second. 2 players for Lions arrived 15 minutes before the end
replacing the keeper and adding one to make a full team. Hats off to Bugils for
allowing the game to proceed without complaint, both sides played fair, good
game.
Scorers : Edward Vreeken (1) (Knudde), Toni (1) (Knudde)
First half was more or less a midfield battle, with more ball possession for Knudde and they also created some chances. Break 20 minutes into the second
half Knudde finally scored and only 5 minutes later they sealed the bag by
scoring another goal. German Plus did have one big chance to at least put one
back, but failed. All in all a deserved win for the Dutch men.
Pleasant
game against the Germans, 1974 and 1988 seem to have been forgotten and/or
forgiven. ---------------- :: Cup Results ► Japan 2 - 1 German Plus

Played on the nice pitch in Sentul. Good conditions, good spirit, always nice to play Team Japan. Japan
with a squad of approx. 14 players, German Plus 17 players. The big rain as
usual in Sentul, started only after the match. German Plus took the lead after
about 15 minutes thanks to a nice shot of Yannick into the far ► Knudde 1 - 2 D'S Place

We played quite well in 1st half
and were a bit unlucky conceding a goal just before the break. 2nd half ended
up being a one way street and we conceded another 5 goals to bring the final
result to a 0-6 defeat. Not exactly what we had hoped for but we very simply
overmatched. ► Bugils 2 - 1 Korea
Scorers :
William Newley (1) (Bugils), Eli (1) (Bugils),
? (1) (Korea)
No match report, but would like to say that we've played the Koreans on
several occasions throughout this year and they are a friendly bunch, play
fairly and always give us a chopped up watermelon when we play in Cibinong.
This last reason alone is enough to recommend their entry into the league next
year. They are clearly all Korean (except an Indo keeper and libero) so
there's no problem on the nationality rule. Let's let them in the league and
make it even more international. ---------------- :: This week Cup fixtures ► German Plus - JIS - Tuesday, May 15th, 8pm, JIS - ► D's Place - DO IT - Wednesday, May 9th, 8pm, ISCI - ----------------
