What is a Musketeer without his 'teer'?

Dear Players, Fans, and Supporters of the Worldwide Football Revolution,

Alright then.... I am ready to start again. But, I am just having a few reluctant moments in motivating myself ever since I found out that Dr. Niall Nelson has left his position at the Fortress. I have this empty space in my writer's heart that cannot be filled unless somebody can verify that he is, indeed, still getting the Newsletter and avidly reading it. Can anybody out there do this for me....? Is he still among us, Brothers? Or has Niall left the building? Until I have some sort of confirmation that he is still out there reading these words then I feel that my cutting edge is dulled. So please forgive me if my hard edge satirical bite is missing in the following passage today. I feel like I have lost my blade and what is a Musketeer without his 'teer'?

On a happier note, I recently discovered that Mark Gray of JIS (click link and recall him as the hero of Newsletter No. 20 - Vol. 1. Season 2004-2005 -  when he saved Matteo's life) has re-nestled back into the life of the JIFL. It is good when we return to our adopted homeland after so many travels afar. Welcome back Mr. Gray... it seems that this year's JIS side sorely needs you back in the line-up.

BuGils Rising! Just as I predicted a couple of years back when I made BuGils FC my secret heart team, here they come!  After defeating 2005-06 Champions JIS with a 1-0 score last Wednesday at the Fortress, now they have gone and done it to the other rising powerhouse FC D's last night at ISCI. The BuGil Boys are leaping up the table and soon will be breaking into the Big 3. The only thing keeping them out of there already is simply goal difference.  Here is what I think in regards to them BuGiggilies this season:  I am predicting a Top 4 finish this year and a UEFA Cup spot, the Most Improved Team Award, and perhaps a finals spot in the JIFL Cup this year. That is my initial gut feeling for this club. And this is assuming that they are able to keep the current personnel at the helm and ready to play for the next 17 league matches and another 4 Cup matches.

Lions Rumours:  It has recently come to the rumour monger's attention that the Lions sometimes known as the Mighties did a triple somersault reverse flip on their pledge not to recruit outside the den this year and brought in as many as 5 (but not less then 3) Cameroon ringers for their match against the Magnificent Vikings and ruined the evening for everybody involved. Apparently, the Vikings lost interest when they saw that yet again it was destined to be a one way traffic match with no laughs whatsoever. I only heard echoes of this incident and did not witness it personally so I cannot verify it. But, even so, didn't we all agree recently that we were going to try and quell the need to win with the desire to play well? Which brings me to....

ISCI 6-A-Sides on Sundays:  Every Sunday at ISCI starting at 5:00 PM, the gates open to the public to come down and have a match. In fact, it is open for the JIFL lads to come and have a match. For a mere 35,000. rupes, you are in the door playing football and getting a free pint o' the good stuff after finishing. Personally, I have gone to ISCI on a few of the Sundays for the 6'ers and I have to say that I find it really enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere with a load of pretty good players participating. Anybody and everybody should try it and they will see that it is an excellent idea and the atmosphere is terrific. Do you remember when you were a kid and you would meet your buddies at the park and make teams and then play a match. It is like that. I have to say that I am enjoying it much more then playing the local village opposition on Sundays which got stale for me personally and felt more like an obligation then anything else. I am now going there on Sundays to play regularly and I would encourage all of the lads to come out and give it a try. I feel like a new me. It's fun. Try it...

Well, keep up the good work. The league is looking good. The standard this year is at the highest that it has ever been and yet, incredibly, we continue to improve even as we get older. Don't you just love it?

Best,

Hero

:: Game report

Mon. Oct. 9th 8:00 PM ISCI Wanderers FC 2 2 German Plus

Scorers : Many (1) (Wanderers), Pato (1) (Wanderers), Thierry (German +), Yannick (German +)
MOM:
Tommy Ambon (Wanderers), Ralph Scheunamann (German +)
Referee appreciation :
8/10 (Wanderers), 7/10 (German +)
Yellow card : Hernan Krespo (Wanderers)

A well played match from both sides. The Wanderers had more of the possession forcing German + to play solid defense and counter attack. German + scored the first of their counter attack goals midway through the first half. The Wanderers continued to pressure but the Germans held fast. Early in the second half the Wanderers were awarded a penalty kick. After this goal it looked like the Germans had their back against the wall. They had no subsitutes and were clearly frustrated by the goal.

The Wanderers took advantage of the drop in the Germans defensive stance and scored another goal. But instead of rolling over the Germans responded to the second goal with an increased measure of determination and the last 20 minutes or so of the game was back and forth with some very solid chances from both sides.

Eventually the Germans equalized late in the game. There were tense moments at the end accompanied by some colorful commentary from both teams - but understandable considering the intensity of the competition. The game ended in a tie - a fitting finish to a well fought game from both ends. Overall it was a good game played in a fair and competitive spirit.
Ian (German+)

Wed. Oct. 11th 8:00 PM JIS JIS 0 1 Bugils FC

Scorers : Eli (1) (Bugils)
MOM:
 Will Julius (JIS), Hartoyo (Bugils)
Referee appreciation :
5/10 (JIS), 6/10 (Bugils) (He let some blatant fouls go and the JIS player was unfortunate to be red carded for what seemed to be an inadvertent body-check-Mark)
Yellow card : Stéphane Thos (2) (JIS)

A second defeat for JIS in a row leaving the blue and white team at the bottom end of the table. Again JIS had many players missing and having only 1 sub didn’t really help. Despite the small squad, JIS should have gotten a result from this game though. First half was pretty even against a much improved Bugils team with few chances in the game. Terrible defending (this seems to be a reoccurring thing for JIS this season) gave Bugils the opportunity to open the score after just 30 secs into the 2nd half.

The remaining 39 minutes was more or less one way traffic towards the Bugils goal. JIS had about 15 corner kicks, lots of pressure, several great opportunities , but no goals. Some very good goal keeping and very poor finishing kept the score at 0-1. It was one of those games, that we could have played for 3 more hours and probably still would not have scored. Congrats to Bugils.
Jurrien (JIS)

Bugils lined up with a new strike partnership of Chris and Eli, due to Will's absence and we were weakened through the centre because Darshan was off sunning himself in Spain....I deputised at centre-back, but was glad to have Hartoyo (MOTM) playing along side me.

A weakened JIS team (with only 1 sub) were unusually direct in their play, as a result loose balls were quite easily mopped by the Bugils defensive line. One bright point for JIS, was their new striker/midfielder, Will, who had a good game despite his tender years. Bugils probably had the better of the chances in the first half, but finding the target proved more difficult than creating good chances. At half-time (0-0), Bugils were hoping that we could sustain our pressure on JIS and secure our first ever win against them.

Some half-time ribbing of Eli about how the Spanish never amount to anything in major championships clearly sparked him into life. The JIS lads kicked off, and within 20-30 seconds, Eli had robbed them of the ball in a dangerous area and put a high swerving shot past the JIS keeper. 1- 0 Bugils. After that, our good passing game of the first half ironically rather fell apart and JIS got stronger! JB was commanding in the Bugils goal and the back 4 defended quite well, but a succession of JIS corners put pressure on our goal. JIS managed to hit the post and blast over from 10 yards, but Bugils held firm (unlike 5 days before against DUI when we conceded in the last couple of minutes) and won our first ever game against JIS. D's Place next ...
