Another really good party
Dear Champions
of the Football World….
Welcome back
to the newest season of the JIFL - 2006-07. First,
let me clue you in to the party that culminated and commenced a
season of our football. Well, it was another really good party
from the JIFL organizers and Lenster
Wee from Eastern Promise did an outstanding job
in preparing the evening. Everything went right with the exception
of a couple of teams who seemed to have no representation there
which is surprising since the league is supposed to be essentially
social.
This can be
easily solved, as in the future, the JIFL committee just needs to
make a mandatory rule that each team must purchase a minimum of 5
tickets and if one team still refuses to send any representation
then we can just replace them in the league at some point with any
of the teams that are waiting to get in… easily solved.
This is a
private message for anybody who purposely stayed away from the
party two weeks ago Friday:
Mandatory socialization. I like the tone of that term. I
thought that I had coined the phrase but then I did a Google
search and found out that there are loads of studies and the
effects of such on various population centers throughout the
world. Anyway, nearly all studies have found that forced
socialization is at least better then no socialization. So be it.
Now, in reality, please ask yourself the truthful reason why you
missed the party. If you were out of the city working or having
surgery in Singapore then it is easily understood. Or, if you were
not aware of it, then I apologize on behalf of your captain /
manager for not informing you. On the other hand, if you stayed
away simply because you don’t like me then you are only hurting
yourself. In that case, you really need to seek psychological
counseling. Let me explain something: I am not going away so you
only have one choice - Acquiesce. Otherwise, like Dave Henderson,
you are just a stupid jackass and most likely, your friends,
family, work colleagues and teammates already know that about you.
2006-07 Season Warming-up: Well,
out of the gates and DOIT are going strong. Momentarily,
leading the league with 9 points and the current leading goal
scorer Rudy Penjol with 6 of his own goals to
boot. He has been dreaming of winning that goal scoring title for
years now (and I have finally decided to step out of the
goalscoring race this year and let him or any others have it). Champions
Wanderers are in 2nd with a game in hand followed
by a newly refitted FC D's Place who have already
been touted as a potential champion for the current season.
From what I have seen so far, I have
to say that Knudde look good with a strong
passing game and overall good balance amongst the team. I hope
that they can maintain the personnel that they have started with
this season as they play a nice brand of football that is not only
enjoyable to play with but equally enjoyable to play against. Secondly,
BuGils FC look like one of the league's better
teams this year and I still support them and all of the good work
that Mark Temple and Eli have
been doing with that club. And last but not least, after all of
these years, the Wanderers have finally got
somebody in charge who knows how to call a line-up and so we will
see how the season fares for the triple league champions and
quadruple JIFL Cup winners this year.
An Apology from a Mate: This is an
e-mail that I received last week and I sought permission to
publish it. Please keep in mind that this is the first time since
I have ever been involved in this league that anybody has ever
decided to apologize for their unbecoming beaviour. You, Sir, are
a gentleman!
Hey Dale, Just a short email
to apologize for my misconduct yesterday on the pitch when I
touched the referee's face, I know I was out of line and promise
it won't happen again. I also wanted to clarify the post-match
comments from some of your guys saying I slapped his face, it
was more like a caress but of course even like that I know I
deserved to be out of the game. The difference is that I didn't
want to hurt the poor guy, just wanted to get his attention
while discussing the last fault he had called.
I already apologized to the
ref when the game finished, and to my own team who was playing
with 10 men for more than 20 minutes because of me. I have been
playing the league already for 2 years and, though we Spanish
always shout and complain a lot :-) , we have had no major
misconduct or generated any bad fight on the pitch.
Once again my apologies to
everybody, and hope we will be able to keep Bugils in a good
position this year again. See you on the pitch !! Gonzalo

has always been a tough place to go and get a result, however, D’s sporting a
new kit including matching socks, not ever seen it D’s previous 4 years. Came
to the plastic pitch, with increased confidence and on the back of recent
results. With all but one squad member missing. D’s had 20 players to chose
from.
D’s
started strongly and with in the first 20 minutes were 2 up with some good
finishing. D’s maintained control for the rest of the first half, without
punishing the opposition. In the second half JIS came out strong and with
the late starting Tomas joining in made all the difference and JIS were more
committed to the task. With D’s superior squad numbers, made many changes,
in addition JIS suffering a couple of injuries, D’s took back control and
scored 2 late goals in the last 5 minutes to make the score line look
convincing.
The
game was played in the spirit of what should be expected in the JIFL,
competitive without malice and fair officials, well done JIS. Nick Hayes
(FC D’s Place)
A
very strong D’s team destroyed a weakened JISside ( 7 players were out)
last night.
D’s came out with all guns blazing with a huge squad of about 20 players.
They were the dominating team for most of the game and fully deserved the
win. JIS will not be happy about the way they gave up the goals. Three of
the 4 D’s goals were terrible blunders in the JIS defense. JIS could have
made the score a bit more respectable, but failed to convert any of their
chances. With this team, D’s should be considered as one of the favorites
to win the JIFL title this year. Jurrien (JIS)

(Dale, our lads, and
probably the DUI lads, would prefer not to have this referee again- Mark).
In
scorching conditions at Bintaro, Bugils started this game with a
make-shift centre back pairing of Mark and Filip, with the rest of the
team largely unchanged from the game against Wanderers. We started slowly
and due to a mix up at the back, Rudi nipped in to get a goal. 1-0, but
unlike times gone by, Bugils held their shape and our midfield pairing of
Ipal and Fariz (both fasting!) found space and put more and more pressure
on the DUI defence. After 1 good 'handball in the box' penalty shout, we
won a freekick (it should have been a penalty, because it was clearly
inside the area) on the edge of the area. Eli despatched it low and hard
into the net, 1-1.
In the second half, the DUI lads took control of the midfield, with Gareth
dropping back and finding space and their lightning forwards making
dangerous runs through our defence. But cometh the hour, cometh the man
and our new right-back John, ex DUI) epitomised the Bugils fighting spirit
and got stuck in on several occasions, one of which led to his yellow card
on Rudi....Oops.....The Bugils back line held firm until 3 minutes to go,
when a quick DUI break saw Rudi race past Darshan (who played superbly at
the back) and myself and finish coolly in the corner. It was a cruel way
to lose a point........ Mark Temple (Bugils)

(Bugils), Todd (Wanderers) Referee appreciation :
5/10 (Bugils), Red card : Gonzalo (Bugils)
I
thought i'd start with an
INANE FACT: Our left/right back combination (John and Ray) have more than
100 years experience between them!!
Bugils started their league campaign in the first of three tough matches
(Wanderers, DIU and JIS in a row) after a resounding 8 - 0 thrashing of a
kampung side at ISCI on Thursday. We knew Wanderers would be a different
prospect, but the Bugils boys in stunning sky blue met the challenge.
Fariz our Indonesian midfielder was immense in picking up balls and
directing play and we held the Wanderers for 30 minutes. Todd (MOM) and
Tommy looked dangerous up front, but Bugils weren't really bothered until
Todd cut in from the left flank and put a great shot past JB at the near
post. 1 - 0 Wanderers, but Bugils were still in it.....
The second half became a heated affair and Gonzalo was sent off after he
placed (and I mean that) his hand lovingly on the referee's face. Rumours
that Gonzalo was inviting him to his sister's wedding are unconfirmed, but
the referee sent him off and with it went Bugils' chances of the Fair Play
Award!
However, although the Wanderers attack increasingly stretched Bugils and
put JB into action several times, we still managed a great chance, when a
pinpoint free kick from Will met my head and flew wide (they said by
inches, I had my eyes closed, which of course is why.........). Anyway,
Todd wrapped in up for the Wanderers with an unstoppable shot to make it 2
- 0 but the Sky Blue Army will continue to fight another day..... Mark (Bugils)

13 Players turned up for
this one on a hot day at BIS, and by the look of the pitch it had seen a
few hot day’s to many (sorry boss).
All were eager to getting going after Wednesday’s demolition of the Lions.
The Vikings also had a few new faces to their squad with a couple brought
in from the youth policy.
We started defending the Kop End as usual after Sid won the Toss (knew we
could count on you) and switched us around. The game started with what
seemed like a few stiff legs or maybe it was just the hard bumpy surface
(sorry boss). The majority of our play seemed to be most effective going
down the left where Fandi was ripping their defense apart.
Our first opportunity arrived on the 10 minute mark after Bling hand
managed to reach the through ball before the on coming keeper, his touch
put him around the keeper but wide however his cross managed to find the
unmarked Rudi on the 6 yard line only for him to smash it against the
defender on the line. All the Viking chances seemed to be coming from long
range in particular from there young man of the match in midfield No.28.
On 2 occasions he forced the keeper to make saves one I managed to hold
just below the bar and the other was tipped over.
On 25 minutes a long throw from the keeper found Fandi out on the left,
after skipping pass a defender he put through a lovely ball which left
Rudi 1 on 1 with the rushing keeper and a stupendous lob saw the new
Adidas match ball float in to the empty net to give DoIt a well deserved
lead.
Around the half hour mark the Vikings had there closest opportunity to
score. Their left Midfielder curled in a cross come shot from the corner
of the box which almost caught the keeper out but after loosing those few
pounds during Bling’s training session last Saturday he was able to claw
the effort around the post to keep DoIt’s lead intact. A couple of minutes
later Fandi again ran rigs around the Vikings defense exchange a few one
two’s on the way and slot the ball nicely past the keeper a into the
bottom right corner to stick us 2-0 up. Half Time: DoIt 2 Vikings 0.
During the half time break Bling spat the gold dummy and explained 3 times
the reason for his anger, and to be fair he did have a point. After the
game Matt mentioned the half time entertainment had reminded him of
program he had once watched Tantrums & Tiara’s.
The second half kicked-off in the same fashion as the first.
Our defense was again standing solid and dealing with any Vikings attacks,
which again resorted to a few long range shots.
Not to long after the restart Matt found himself in the box and even
though his shot flashed past the keeper it smashed off the underside of
the bar and bounced back in to play just like that shot by another
Englishman so many years ago.
Fandi also tested the wood work with a great effort from out side the box
which crashed of the keepers right hand post. The Vikings also hit the
post late on with a tame effort, but the keeper had it covered all the
way… .....honestly. Our last chance of the day fell to lightening Lucas who
rose like a young salmon to meet Blings floated free kick and from 10
yards, eyes closed he managed to shoulder the effort passed the post. It
will come mate, it’ll come.
Great performance once again. Even with a changed back four from
Wednesday’s game we seemed to stand firm pick up players and restrict the
Vikings attack. The communication between the midfield and the strikers
also seems to be working. NEXT GAME??????? Tim, are you back for the
drinks?????????? Duncan (Doit)

MOM:
Rudi (Doit), Referee appreciation :
Non so each team did a half
We
managed to scrap together a squad of 13 players which include a couple of
new faces and a few old ones. Everyone turned up on time raring to go
after Saturday’s pre-season training session, where some of us had a
harder time than others.
An 8pm Kick-Off was scheduled but when I turned up at 7:20pm the ISCI
Staff did not even know there was a game, some things never change. Gladly
there were no other games scheduled so we Kicked Off at 8:30pm.
From the off both teams seemed to be sizing each other up, but DoIt had
the more flowing football and after 10 minutes, our new manager sent in a
cross from the left which Bling gracefully accepted, 1-0 DoIt. From the
restart we pressed on again showing so good touches and passing. New Matt
with Sid beside him at the back and Tim and Eric at either side of them
had the Lions in their pockets.
The majority of our attack was coming from the right were frequent dashes
down the wing were made by the youthful running Eric. On 20 minutes the
ball was switched over to the left and a deep cross again from Denis found
Bling in the box 8 yards from Goal, an effortless nod and we were 2-0 up.
Bling came off to give Rudi a run out which he took full advantage off by
running the tiring Lions defense ragged.
On 30 minutes DoIt increased their lead with a good finish from Rudi.
After the restart Lions made their first serious effort from a corner
which was initially cleared by Irwin in Goal but fell to a Lions player
who lobbed the stranded keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line.
In retaliation DoIt stormed up the park and after a few passes around the
Lions Den the ball broke kindly around the penalty spot for Matt (Old) who
let fly with a stunning shot which seemed to slow down quite rapidly on
it’s way over the keeper and into the net. Now there were whispers amongst
the crowd and a few of our strikers, that the shot had been deflected but
after speaking to Matt he assures me these rumors are false and the goal
was his (Cheers for the Rp100,000 by the way). Half Time: DoIt 4 - Lions 0
Second half started off same as the first with DoIt attacking the Lions
Goal at every opportunity from the right & the left. 5 minutes in we were
5 up with a great finish from Rudi, rounding the new Lions keeper and
slotting home. One impressive observation was the fitness level of the old
guard through out, Tim, Sid & Eric at the back had great games and
lightening Lucas had some super runs all over the park. The only worry in
the 2nd half came from a corner which was attacked with vigor from the
Lions strikers but was plucked out the air by yours truly only to be
nailed on my way down by the Lions captain. On 70 minutes the game was all
over as Rudi sealed his first hat-trick of the season, which killed off
any fight the Lions had left in them.
Great start to the season which sees us sitting top going into game 2 on
Saturday against the Vikings. We still have a few players who are due back
so things are looking good so far…………….
I’ll leave you with a quote which I heard on Saturday after our training
session from a lad or lass when he lets his hair down, who on that day had
his team hammered 23-3 if I remember correctly. "Yeah the Lions are
favorites to win the league this season, they bought in a few really good
players"... Duncan (Doit)

An excellent opening
match for D's. We've been playing the Japanese very well the past two
seasons but had never beat them in a league game, the exception being last
season in a cup game; although last year we drew twice. We played
exceptionally well from the opening whistle dominating the mid-field and
controlling the pace of the game. We dominated possession and play for the
opening 20 minutes putting constant pressure on their defence. We had
several scoring opportunities from the start and opened the scoring on a
breakaway from Nico (top scorer last season), who had lots of time to pick
his spot. The second goal was a mad scramble in front of the net with Nico
poking it in. The Japanese didn't have much luck penetrating the D's
defence, although we did have a few first half lapses that thankfully
weren't capitalized upon. Half-time score D's 2-0. The second half saw D's
score to make it 3-0 on a great shot by Joel that alluded the keeper. The
Japanese then started to push forward and used their speed to draw a
penalty. Score 3-1. We then closed things up completely and they didn't
have much further success penetrating our half. A good-spirited game from
both
sides. Geoff (FC D's Place)

Japanese team couldn't get a goal though there was several times chance
which was conclusive. Kagami (Japan)

As
always a close game between gplus and jis. A very good game for the german plus team, taking
under consideration, that this was the first time most of the players
played together. In the first 20 min of the first half, gplus was
constantly attacking JIS, having a few good chances on the goal. JIS did a
lot of counterattacking, thanks to a very young player (No.7, 14years old)
who was in our eyes the mom. JIS also had a few good shots on the goal.
In the second half, same game like the 1st half, strong attacking from
gplus, havin one or two 100% chances on the goal, but unfortunately the
strikers were still a bit rusty.
just right before the end of the half jis counterattacked, and shot their
winning goal.
a fair game from both sides, no complaints about the ref. Mathias (German Plus)
We
fully agree with Peter's match report. It was a good competitive game
played in good spirits. The result could have gone either way and JIS were
a bit fortunate to get the win. A draw would probably have been a fair
result. Jurrien (JIS)
