Fine job boys

Dear Ball Kickers and Friends of Ball Kickers,

The Ramadan holidays have just passed and finally it has happened! Yes, the X-Pats have done it! A glorious victory over the Magnificent Vikings on Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory has put them on the board and given them a much needed injection of belief that they deserve. Man of the Match Jean Piere Seveke to the rescue with a sweet header off a corner kick and 3 points in the bag. And if anybody thinks that that news didn't travel fast around the league then they are badly mistaken. I just want to share with you a few of the many SMS's that came through following and surrounding the 'upset' from the other night. But, firstly, let me explain that I ain't gonna reveal any names from these messages (in order to protect the innocent).

Message One: "We f*%#king lost (to the X-Pats). Everyone's head was still on holidays. Pisses me off."

                         - Anonymous Viking Player

Message Two: "1-0. Scored with the only chance they got."

                         - Anonymous Viking Player

Message Three: "I just saw Peter (Nilsen) at CITOS. Vikings lost against X-Pats? It's amazing"

                         - Anonymous Mighty Lions Player

Message Four: "Fockin' 'ell. The X-Pats kecked the Vikes asses the other night! Cun you believe it?

                         - Anonymous Scottish Bastard

Well, these were just a selection that I randomly selected from the array that flooded in. It reminded me of those newsreels from the olden days like when the Hindenburg crashed or the Titanic sank and newsflashes were going all over the world via telegraph: Bee-bee-beep bee-bee-beep... NEWSFLASH * NEWSFLASH.  Nazis Stormtroop Poland,  Britain Declares War on Germany!  Bee-Bee-Beep! It was entertaining to say the least. And, although, I feel sympathy for the Vikings; I am elated for the X-Pats. X-Pats get the Team of the Week Award. Fine job boys.  Congrats to the X-Pats! (By the way, if I didn't mention it before, the X-Pats also beat the Thursday night ISCI side a few weeks ago, as well... just in case you were interested).

The Kingpin

In other related events, the total footballers of Knudde took a point away from a draw with JIS on Wednesday evening and put themselves into a five way tie for 3rd place in the league. Now DOIT, JIS, Team Japan, Vikings, and Knudde all share 10 points and it is anybody's guess who will take whom at any given time. As of now, the bookies are no longer taking bets on the JIFL. The Kingpin (that's his name) called me the other night to let me know that the syndicate had suspended all odds on the JIFL and to let the bettors know that 'play has been indefinitely suspended until the 2nd half of the season'.  He went on to explain to me that the matches are simply just too unpredictable. And then he mentioned that it is nearly impossible to predict the outcome of any single match from any particular team (with the exception of one group of fellows but I am not going to mention their name today).

This weekend will be another big week in the league. Deutschland Plus storms out to Sentul Stadium to battle former allies Team Japan in a battle of the former Axis powers and a share of 3 points. Player / Manager Dieter 'Methuselah' Cremer, who has played 1,983 matches for German Plus, seems to be under some pressure from his club if the performances don't pick up very soon and I have heard (might have even fueled) some rumors of an imminent coup d'état in the works just coming to a boil behind the scene in the German camp. Stay tuned for next week's ongoing drama and the nail-biting conclusion of this cliffhanger in the works.

Riot police have been called

Meanwhile, the Mighty Lions will be trying to secure their 2nd place (and ultimate Champions League) spot by trying to overcome FC D's Place at ISCI on Saturday evening. The Battling Boys of D's cannot be taken lightly though and I expect that some poor fool of a referee is going to be verbally raped all night by both sides in this blood curdling and perhaps brutal match up tomorrow evening.

In the final duel of the weekend, we have the 'Unmentionables' playing against the Boys of DOIT at BIS Stadium in an afternoon match up. Riot police have been called in on standby just in case the nearly 55,000. expected capacity crowd gets out of control at any point during the game. Apparently, Governor Sutiyoso has consulted with the local authorities and BRIMOB to make sure that the opposing fans from both illustrious clubs tow the line and maintain order no matter what the outcome of this ancient rivalry between clubs.

Apparently, Wibbley-Wobbley will not be at the match much to the relief of the Travelers (pseudonym of the actual club) and rumor has it that former English football star & teen magazine pin-up Andy Livsey is ready to abandon his self-imposed retirement to make an appearance for his old club. By now, everybody knows that DOIT never win without ol' Wobbles on the field. And everybody is well aware that Andy is probably the best defender that anybody anywhere has ever seen play in their lives.

To be continued next week...

Scorers: Jean Pierre Seveke (1) (X-Pats)
MOM:
Jean Pierre Seveke (X-Pats),
Referee appreciation : 5/10 (from X-Pats), 6-7/10 (from Vikings- Fairly decent job in a match without any real drama in the form of late tackles etc)

Team: Gary (goalkeeper), Sebastian, Gregoire, David Nesbit, Michael, Iwan, Matthew, Carlo, Roberto, Jean Pierre, Cedric, Ivan, Yaccine, Begin, Carlos, Marco. After a dream 25 minute journey from Rasuna Said I arrived to find that ISCI had not registered Viking’s booking of the pitch. Luckily the rugby players who should have been training did not show so the game was on. We had a very full turn out with 16 players but unfortunately no Bambang so I had another attempt at keeping goal. Right from the kick off it was evident from the Vikings play that we would have a good chance of winning. But as usual although Xpats had a great deal of possession we were not able to convert the chances generated. That could also be said for the Vikings who appeared to be lacking a creative midfield and produced very few incisive through balls to their lumbering centre forward.

In fact apart from one save by the post and a ball spilled to the feet of a Vikings forward, I saw very little action. A major difference from previous games was a stronger more organised back four and more determined defensive play in the our midfield. In the second half, good work by Carlos, Yaccine and Marco up front resulted in several Xpat corners. Eventually from one of these Jean Pierre headed in of the post. Probably due to being in new territory – the lead – we had quite a few panicky moments after that, most notably when I dropped the ball at the blind Viking players feet. In the end Vikings could not produce anything but a great deal of hacking and we finally achieved our first victory of the season.
Gary (X-Pats)

It was a very disappointing perfomance by Vikings against a well organized and very compact Expat team. The match was decided on soft goal after a corner and with Vikings failing to convert as a matter of fact not even kicking the ball on two 100% chances. Credit to Expat for a good solid performance
Jesper (Vikings)

FC Knudde

Scorers: Uwe (pen) (JIS), Vincent Geerts (1) (Knudde)
MOM: Andreas Jakubowski (JIS),
# 32 Indonesian midfielder (Knudde)
Referee appreciation : 5/10 (from JIS)
Cards :
Lee Hawkins (yellow) (JIS), Stephane Thos (yellow) (JIS), Stefan van den Hende (yellow) (Knudde)

A physical game in which JIS was struggling to find its shape. With 5 players missing from the usual starting line up , it was always going to be a tough battle against a much improved Knudde side.

Knudde took the lead halfway the first half, taking advantage of a terrible defensive JIS mistake. In the 2nd half Knudde could have sealed the three points, but failed to score a 2nd goal, thanks to outstanding goalkeeping from Andreas Jakubowski. They were punishished, when Uwe converted a penalty to tie the match.1-1

Jurrien (JIS)

Ref was terrible and well below the 5 that Jurrien gave. He was very consistent though and both JIS and Knudde suffered ,which added fuel to the frustration and physical challenges on the pitch. After all a deserved draw, with good chances wasted by Knudde and a goal by JIS in the 2nd half to reward the continuous pressure on Knudde's defence.
Robin (Knudde)
