And yet another week passes us by at the speed of gary and history has finally been made. The Mighty Lions have famously pulled off the caper of the century by going out to DOIT's home pitch and carrying off 3 points in a dramatic 5-4 victory over one of the traditionally strongest clubs in the league. The DOIT boys are feeling a bit confused and befuddled as this is the worst start in the history of their club. But even so, I believe in those lads and, like Manchester United does on a regular basis, I can see them pulling back to within Championship pointage (and yet another new word that I am introducing to the English language) later on in the season. Rumors are already going around that anybody who wins the JIFL Manager of the Year award curses his club the following season. Mike Wildblood got the award last season and the Wanderers could not defend their title. Mick McTeir got it this year and DOIT are already in the relegation zone just one month into the season. I did mention though that them Lions were gonna be troublemakers this season, didn't I? Well, congratulations to the Mighties. They have suffered long and hard and tenaciously built their club into something to take pride in. To the rescue Well, we do have a few results this week as well including a fantastic showing from BuGils FC the other night against the Wanderers. I have never seen such a dramatic turnaround in a just a few weeks from any club in this league. BuGils jumped out of the block immediately from the kickoff when Neil Donovan took the ball off of Eli Lalbar and started the Ronaldo stepovers beating at least four Wanderers on route directly to the goal. Everybody recognized that something was up and only two minutes later they forced a penalty kick off of a cross which ended as a handball in the box. Eli steps up and cracks the penalty in. Then for nearly 70 minutes they hold the lead and it looks as if the Wanderers home field win-streak which has lasted for over three years is finally over. But, unfortunately for them, Tommy Ambon came to the rescue. Then The President sealed a victory with only a few minutes left after a shot going wide gets deflected into their own goal just past the outstretched diving goalie. It was extremely hard to choose a Man of the Match since everybody in the side (including Ray Googlie-Googlies) played an outstanding game of football. I stand by my support of BuGils this season. Keep up the hard work and the great standard of football Bugils. You, too, like the Mighty Lions, will one day earn your place in the sun. Real grass rather than plastic grass
Finally, another team who is making a mark on the horizon is FC D's
Place. Last night they battled against the Jakarta X-Pats in Kuningan
and walked away with a 5-0 victory. Well done to D's who are steadily
climbing the points ladder one by one. And just a friendly word for the
Jakarta X-Pats: Hang in there, lads. Keep your heads up. And maintain
your enthusiam. All good things come to those who are patient and whom
wait. Just look at BuGils and the Lions. They are perfect examples of
such complete turnarounds. --------------------------------------

After the narrow defeat to Wanderers last week, Lions
went to BIS full of confidence, despite not having their 2 Indonesian
players in the squad. With 1 point from 2 fixtures DOIT have had a poor start to the season. So there was some determination to get more points when meeting the mighty Lions. It has to be said though when we saw the team we lined up against, I am not sure if the lions can continue to call themselves a British team as it would appear their key players are most certainly not from there (no matter how culturally diverse the UK is), maybe African Lions would be a more apt name. Things started well after about 20 minutes when McTeir crossed in a ball to Withe whose initial header was blocked but he managed to recover the ball at his feet and fired home the first goal. The lions were not about to lay down though and came back quickly with an equaliser from far out into Erwins bottom left hand corner. Doits second followed soon after when Gareth picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and finish with a strong hard shot into the keepers bottom right hand corner. This was enough to spur the lions into action and their brethren sparked into life. Basically the lions had a core player in the defence, midfield and attack and all moves were constructed through them. Their little forward Ben was a real handful. and believe me Sid tried to get a few. The lions scored an equaliser just before half time to make it 2-2 at the break. Doit not too despondent as yet felt the game was within their grasp and it was good to have Ronan back in midfield with smooth finish Matt. Second half underway and our midfield appeared to lose contact with our defensive line creating a gap that the lions utilised to construct chances. Their midfielder Skunk. (well named after his blonde streak hairstyle) played nice one two's with Ben up front carving opportunities for the lions out of nothing. This resulted in us going down first 3-2 then 4-2. Ronan who doesn't like throwing any game away, (especially a league title in the last three minutes) became self motivated and decided to take on the lions individually, playing in defence, midfield and attack simultaneously. This inspired him to score a fine goal after a build up down the left by Aci who cut back to Ronan who hit it low and hard into the net, making it 4-3. However once again Ben worked a move and scored his 4th goal of the game to take the lions clear at 5-3 with about 10 minutes to go. The lions supporters could not watch at this point as they were sure the football gods would contrive to through away the lead they had worked hard to create. Their nerves were tattered even more when Ronan scored another to make it 5-4 from the edge of the area with minutes remaining. Doit continued to press until the end and had a couple of chances that could have been converted but it was not to be. Lions celebration with a samba and drinking went on into the wee small hours of Sat and they will have a few more nights like that is they can continue to keep their team.
However there was some concern at the length of the
visit VISA some of their players had, after two "visitors" posed for
pictures with team Doit at the end of the game, they said they wanted to
send the pictures home to their families to proves they did beat a "Buana"
team, single handed! Doit left the field with heavy hearts and legs, the
result confirming this was the poorest start to any season in DOIT's
history but in a post match press conference the board fully supported
player manager McTeir and announced a increase in his budget to buy new
players, if he can spend it within the week. Captain Sid Whyte said "we
were shite!" to inspire the team for their game against the expats next
sat. The press are already calling it a bottom of the league clash!
