 8:00 PM onward

at D's Kemang (The New Beat Club) Kemang

::Edito

Support the JIFL party !

All JIFL Players, families, friends, fans, and supporters are all welcome. This is the annual bash at the end of the season where all of the awards are presented to the teams and players of the JIFL. Please support the league by making an appearance.

Tickets will be Rp. 100,000. each.  Price will include buffet and free flow beer. Mark and the MegaWatts will be performing and guest appearances by the McNally Boys in a mutual jam session, as well.

We need support from each team in the league and we expect you all there!  We had good support last year (with the exception of the DOIT boys who sent no one to the party which was extremely disappointing). Every other team gave decent support. It is important that we continue to make sure that we fill up the tables. Besides, where else would you want to be but together with all of the footballers that you play with and against all year? This is a great chance to all come together and have fun together. Support it!

::JIFL Cup Final

 Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

- ISCI - 7:30 PM Kickoff

The (f.a) Wanderers will be defending the JIFL Cup against a serious DOIT Satu Lagi team this Wednesday evening at ISCI.  Anybody and everybody is welcome to come and watch and enjoy a meal and beverages at the Final this midweek. Bets will be taken by 'Booky' Rawthore at the event.

::Last Week's Wrap-up

We had FC D's Place struggle for a goalkeeper in their last two matches resulting in a 7-1 loss to the (t.f.) Knudde last week and an 11-2 thrashing to Cup finalist DOIT Satu Lagi on Saturday.  We also had another Mag. Vikings and Knudde clash on Friday evening and yet again those Vikings have had a heckuva season with a 2-0 victory over the Dutchmen.  Vikings are looking like the Most Improved side in the JIFL this season, in my opinion.

Finally, the JIFL Champions, JIS had a combined league and Cup match last Wednesday against the (f.a.) Wanderers. It was their chance to do the double this year if they could manage to take out the former champs in the JIFL semi-final action at ISCI. Unfortunately, a couple of JIS's key players in Gordon Boyd and Thomas Weber were not available for the match. And although the Wanderers had only one sub (as usual) and JIS clearly outplayed them on the night even going up 1-0 within five minutes, the counter attack quality of the Wanderers was too much. The result ended 4-1which ended JIS's season but made the Wanderers season with the boys in black going for their third JIFL Cup title in a row on this coming Wednesday evening.

Clobbered by the Cloggies - A night of shame for D's as the Dutch ran rampant.

Both teams turned up a little short of the full compliment of players at KO time. It was agreed to wait a little, and while most of the Dutch team showed up, most of D's did not! D's still had a full team to start the match, but with 5 changes to the starting line up from our last match, and no goal keeper, it was always going to be difficult.

The game started evenly enough, Knudde held and made better use of the ball than D's but there were no more than half chances for the first 15-20 minutes. The pattern looked set to continue until number 32 arrived for Knudde, he scored one and made one in the space of 5 minutes, the first of which would have been saved if D's had had a goal keeper - the second of which would not! an excellent run and shot. With D's still struggling to hold the ball and gain a little confidence, Knudde scored a third on a fast break away, effectively killing the game. A fourth by half time took its toll on a already beleaguered D's defense.

The second half started much like the first, even exchanges without too much penetration from either side. A fine run and lovely lob shot from Yuri gave D's morale a boost, and just for a moment thoughts of a second were in our minds. However, Knudde stepped up the pace and scored a fifth with a quick break down the D's right hand side which had the D's right back found wanting again! (me)!

With the game already won, Knudde played some nice football through the middle and down the flanks, moving the ball well. D's did not give up, which was heartening for me, despite the sixth and seventh goals. D's midfield dynamo Geoff was yellow carded for, (I assume), persistent fouling, but there was never anything malicious in the game and it was played in a friendly manner throughout.

A bitter pill for D's after a string of good results, not having a keeper makes a huge difference in this league. Having made that excuse, (again)! the Dutch did the job they needed to, and played well throughout. Referees were okay, not sure it that was because the game was effectively over after 35 minutes or if they were actually quite good. Anyway, makes a nice change not to be panning them.

Alan (D's Place)

As a matter of fact our Orange squad has struggled with internal problems and extreme circumstances this season. A dramatic chronical show up of players and no training at all in the 1st season of our history has led to a just 8th position on the table. Since the last 5 years we used to position ourselves at the first 5. Sharp critics and repeatedly lecture lately made Knudde show up with 14 persons tonight, and an overwhelming motivation at the start of this one before last match for this season. It expressed it'sself in dominating football during the whole 1st half with almost faultless cooperation between the Orange jerseys and a convincing score of 4 - 0 in our advantage before the break. The 2nd half was a copy of the 1st one and more an addition for the statistics with a final score of 7 - 1 and a deserved victory for Knudde.
Only a scandalous tackle of an opponent seconds before the final whistle made him leave the pitch but couldn't destroy our euphoria.

Stand inn coach Kees did a good job for the resting Wouter but still the chronical problems are not solved yet. This is just one of the 20 matches and this summer we have to work hard to make a fundament to climb back to the top region. Hopefully this match and also other activi ties like an upcoming website gives the team inspiration enough to say farewell to our worst season ever and make a fresh start to put Knudde there where it belongs. At the top. That's a matter of mentality, dedication and awareness to our beloved club of friends.
Jeroen (Knudde)

What can I say, JIS had a great start after 5 minutes with 1:0 up, but we really missed Chris McCarthy, Gordon, Lance, Thomas and Uli. Anyway, after a great free-kick from Manny 1:1, Tommy gave us the must problems during the rest of the game. Matteo tried to help us with an almost own goal, but the post was against it. The last 20 minutes the Wanderers slowed down (especially Dale) and played a kind of succesful 7-1-2 system. Overall, a deserved win for the Wanderers. As a total surprise for us, JIS won the beer drinking competition, guess it was the first time against the Wanderers. ,Good luck for the Cup final, DO IT Is waiting, see you all at the party.

For large part of the match Knudde played the best football and had most possession but once again good goalkeeping by John was critical to the result.  This combined with a relatively efficient conversion of scoring opportunities was the main reason behind the result.  The match was played in good spirit as always and Vikings left ISCI just before 02:00.  Although it was an easy macth to officiate the referee did a decent job and Vikings scores him to 8 / 10

D's Hemorrhage, Doit Hump!

Coming off the back of a 7-1 thrashing from the Dutch I thought things could only get better, well we did score two this time out but conceding 11 takes the shine off it a little. Worse than that, we had to borrow two of the Doit squad in order to start the game, I think that's the first time we have had to do that in two seasons, a bit sad. Doit had pretty much a full squad, I could only spot Rudi and Tim as missing from previous line ups. D's had nine, and no goal keeper again. After giving it several minutes with no more D's showing up we borrowed Craig and Chris, both playing midfield. With no keeper we put Samson between the sticks again.

The game started evenly enough, with D's actually having the better of the earl exchanges. Our first time Russian, Yuri, started well and showed a lot of nice touches. Our second Russian, another Yuri, scored the opening goal after a slight mix up in the Doit defense. So D's 1 up with 80 minutes to go - then we folded. Doit started putting some passes together and it wasn't long before the deluge started. As the rain poured so did the goals, for a 20 minute spell it seemed that any shot on target was going in. Eventually, at 5-1, D's changed keepers, putting centre back Jocean in as at least he is over 5ft. Arguable whether it helped that much, Doit had the foot off the gas by now and D's were battered and bruised. I can't quite remember what the half time score was, but it was all over by then, even damage limitation was out of the window.

We started the second half with another borrowed player in goals, and although D's managed a second goal by then Doit had 8 so the come back was looking doubtful. The rest of the scoring is a little hazy, but I do recall Whibley Wobbly striding through the middle to finish off a nice move with a string shot, most depressing. Good spirit throughout the game and although it was embarrassing for D's I would like to thank Doit for taking the game seriously throughout, (at least it appeared that way). Referees were okay, I can only recall shouting at the ref once, so he must have been doing something right.
Alan (D's Place)

Last Saturday league match of the season and several players off on a stag weekend to Bali! However we did have Patrick Read visiting town and quite a strong squad. In fact we had two new guys, Nick's son Chris and Steve's friend who we gave to the visitors as they were short. Anyway of we go, defence sleeping a bit, Sid and Nick in the mutual appreciation society (that is not an investment group), missed the long ball over the top and their forward nips in and tucks it away. Literally 3 minutes played and we are 1-0 down. D's threatened again in the next 5 minutes and we are lucky to be only one down. "What a start" as myself and Patrick discussed on the sideline!

At this point it was raining quite heavily, but it soon stopped an this signified a change in the game as well. Doit started to play some good football mainly because they were give the time to do so. I do not intend to try and recall the scoring order, I can barely remember who scored the goals. Notable moments, Sid's first, but disputed goal. Patrick and I, still on the bench looking and discussing the huge gap to the keepers top left after he had set up his wall for a Whyte free kick in the centre of the field just outside the box. Sid saw it as well and was attempting to put it there, ran up miss hit the ball straight at the wall, it took a wild deflection wrong footed the keeper and straight in the middle of the goal!!

That put Sid back to -1 for the season! Ronan notching two goals and having numerous opportunities to get a hat trick but somehow totally screwing up each one. This pulled him level with Rudy for top scorer for the season, he obviously doesn't want the golden flip flop!! Trigger, finally pulling one (get it, pulled the trigger!!!!!!!, Boom! Boom! as Basil Brush would say) scoring the last, he was put clean through and tucked it away, to derisory shouts from his team mates about how long it had been since they had seem him do that! Denis, I don't remember your two, suffice to say slotted away like the old Pro you are! Sid's second was a nice goal with a run to the by-line and a cut back to him about the penalty spot, finished well goal tally 0 for the season!

Before we get on to Richard Watson's Hat Trick, lets first of all have a quiet word about Neil Cooper, who played up front all day and failed to notch. Neil had a good game don't get me wrong, he set up several goals and ran his little socks of for the afternoon, but was almost as frustrated as a Eunuch down the Blok. Richard, what a hat trick, one with the foot and two with the head. Two inch perfect crosses picking him out at the far post from the right midfield dynamo Mick McTeir and his first a break down the right in the first half. Richard looked shocked at his achievement and left early as he didn't know what being a hero felt like before. Another highlight has to be the Richard Watson shoulder charge in the first half.

One D's player was running for the ball with Richard, and in the resulting shoulder charge the D's guy bounced off and was thrown to the deck by the force of Richards shoulder and to add insult to injury he had a double bounce landing. He looked like he had just run into a brick wall! Other notable mentions; Nick and Lucas worked hard all day and Patrick read who missed three open chances only to be given MOTM! Eric who took the huff a bit at being asked to sit out for a while and promptly pulled on an opposition top! Steve who hates playing left back actually playing left back! D's pulled one back near the end and we all had a good run out. Some players played out of position for a change and although D's didn't enjoy it we did!

Vikings FC      2   -vs-   0    Jakarta X-Pats
Date: June

Scorers: Peter Degn (1) (Vikings), Franny (1) (Vikings)
MOM:
John Flood (Vikings)

At 20:00 things looked quite OK except for the missing referees but some unfortunate jogger got chain-ganged for an evening of verbal abuse and we could kick off.  Vikings immediately took control of the midfield and looked promising going forward and within 10 minutes we had missed the first open chance.  Not long after a very good move down our left hand side resulted in Peter Degn cutting into the box and from a tight angle scoring to 1-0.  Not too long after Franny, as a result of another nifty move found himslef in space inside the box and he did not fail to convert to a 0-2 score.  This was also the result at halftime but only because John had pull up a small handful of very critical saves as Expats a couple of time caught us when committed forward an furthermore, had two very fast Indonesian players that at a number of occasions managed to cut through to the byline and producing dangerous crosses.

2nd half was not pretty but hard work and the occasional desperate last ditch defending in front of the goal mouth carried Vikings through to a 2-0 victory with the clean sheet very much the result of yet another outstanding performance by John.  He was deservedly selected as MoM by Expats.

Looking back Expats would probably feel that they should have managed a draw but John’s good goal keeping bagged all 3 points for Vikings.
